The Changes That Come with Time — Wearing a Hemp Gi
Share
After Six Months of Testing
We’ve been continuously wearing our hemp training gi prototypes for testing over the past months.
Training, washing, wearing again, and repeating the cycle — it’s been nearly six months now.
When we first received them, the fabric felt clean and structured, even slightly stiff. We wondered whether it would truly soften and adapt to the body over time.
After repeated training sessions and washes, gradual changes began to appear. The fabric softened sooner than expected, movement became easier, and the surface settled into a more natural look.
Creases began forming in areas that naturally fold with movement.
Changes That Appear Naturally
Hemp fibers are strong, but not highly elastic. Because of this, folds and movement patterns remain visible. At the same time, the fabric retains its strength even after repeated wear and washing.
Over time, the gi begins to shape itself to the wearer’s movement. It becomes different from its original state.
What Changes Over Time
For those who prefer gear to always look new and crisp, these changes might feel unfamiliar. But in a well-worn gi, the traces of movement and time naturally remain.
Training gear inevitably carries signs of use. Through that process, it becomes more familiar to the body.
We may be making products for those who prefer things that change naturally over time.
Before the First Release
Our first product is now in its final stage of production. Since this is the first piece we are putting into the world, we wanted to release it only when we felt ready. For that reason, it has taken a little more time.
In the End, It’s Up to the One Who Wears It
For some, these characteristics may feel like a downside. For others, they may be seen as natural traces left on gear that is meant to be used for a long time.
We prefer to leave that judgment to the person who wears it.
